Winterspiration: Wonderland Mood Board...

Tis the season to be jolly...romantic

I love that snowflakes are said to be kisses from angels.
love the idea of wrapping up in snug luxe velvets and furs.
I love how mischievous mistletoe represents romance and fertility.  I'm thinking homemade snowflake cookie favours, I'm thinking ice bars, I'm thinking sparklers and lanterns.  Yes, I'm thinking Christmas...

Liverpool reveals a dark side as brides follow designers to go Gothic

Check Bespoken Dreams out in yesterday's  Liverpool Echo!

A model displays a creation by British fashion designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen spring-summer

IF the word Gothic conjures up images of sullen inky-eyed teens, or Twilight’s beautiful blood-guzzling vampires, then it might be time for a rethink.

Because the biggest name designers have decreed that fashion is feeling in a dark mood and that means a resurgence in all things decadent and dramatic.

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen unveiled a Gothic inspired collection in Paris for spring/summer 2012, full of satin and lace, and so too did Yves St Laurent and Chanel.

But it isn’t just stunning evening dresses which have crossed to the dark side - bridal gowns have too.
The queen of wedding style Vera Wang has just released a collection in New York called Witchcraft by Vera Wang. It features black gowns designed with lace, tulle and organza, and has had fashion observers predicting that in the next few months at least black could well be the new white.

There’s no doubt that Gothic glam is having a moment and, with Halloween just around the corner, it’s a trend that Liverpool fashion followers are finding more of a treat than a trick.

“Brides fall in love with the romance, magic and mysticism of the look,” explains Liverpool wedding planner Helens Burns. “But it’s a trend that is accessible to all, not just Gothic brides.

“Rich colours such as deep reds and purples and emerald greens have an edge without the bride having to wear all black, and materials such as lace, velvet, silk and chiffon all hint towards Gothic glam.

“A lot of fashionistas drew inspiration from the Duchess of Cambridge’s iconic wedding dress, and from Sarah Burton’s recently unveiled collection for SS12.”

Helen, who lives in Allerton, launched her Bespoken Dreams wedding consultancy in April. She says the Gothic trend doesn’t just centre around what the bride wears, it’s all about setting the scene too.

“Castles, stately homes and country manors are the perfect backdrop to build this theme around and props and accessories including candles and dramatic flowers like black roses and calla lilies all add to the feel,” she explains.

"Dramatic italic and Gothic fonts can be used on wedding stationery and menus, and quotes from Gothic-inspied literature like Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey or favourite movies are perfect nods towards the trend which can be used on table plans and place settings.

“Brides and bridesmaids might also want to experiment with darker make-up for lips and nails, so there are lots of ways to incorporate touches without going for a full-blown Gothic wedding.”

In perfect timing for the trend, Liverpool will host a Gothic Fashion Show on Thursday November 3.

The event, at the Wedding House near the Anglican Cathedral, is being co-ordinated by Kate Bentley from Eat Your Heart Out Vintage boutique in aid of Alder Hey’s Clothes Throw Appeal.

More than 30 suppliers, covering everything from cakes to corsetry, will be taking part in the show encouraging guests to unleash their inner Gothic girl.

“The theme translates into mystery, subtle seduction and quiet confidence for any bride-to-be or fashion conscious woman,” says Kate.

“Our collections are influenced by the timeless style of the past as well as catwalk trends from the present, offering fashion forward vintage clothing. Materials of luxe lace, velvet, silk and floaty chiffon take the look from the runway to the big day.

“For the show, each boutique will give an appetiser of its autumn/winter collections with a nod towards Gothic glam. Cloud 9 Bridal, Eat Your Heart Out Vintage and Hollywood Glamour are among the names showcasing their collections with hair and make-up from in-house professionals.”

The Gothic Fashion Show will take place at The Wedding House, 3-4 Great George Place, Liverpool 1 on Thursday November 3, 6-8.30pm.

Keeping Up With the Paper Doll - An Inspiring Invite Insight...

Hot on the (Giuseppe Zannoti wedding) heels of Kim Kardashian is Sarah Cluney of the Paper Doll, local lovely and wedding stationer extraodinaire.

Always  keeping up with the ever changing trends to whet her bride's amorous appetites, Sarah's most recent design is the Oh-So-Cool-Old-Hollywood-Glamour-Old-School, a replica of Kim Kardashian's beau-ti-ful wedding invitation, and of course, at a kimth of the price!

Bespoken Dreams caught up with Sarah and her sparkly world of crafty creations to find out more...

"I accidentally ‘fell’ into the wedding business!  I have always be crafty and loved to create various bits and bobs which led me to having part time jobs in both Craft Central and The Paper Mill.  I was at these shops while completing my degree in Psychology.  I took on the role of wedding co-ordinator at The Paper Mill and it all started from there.  I began to develop my passion for wedding stationery running appointments and teaching brides how to create their own wedding stationery, giving tips and advice on materials and tools required.  It was at this point that I decided to put one of my table plans on Ebay - the classic bow design that has now become my biggest seller. I remember selling one three days after the item had been listed and I was so excited to create the item, then the next day I sold another, and another and it all took off from there!  In June 2010 I completed my degree and when I started to develop an order book for wedding stationery I realised there was no looking back.

I've not long celebrated The Paper Doll’s official birthday and I would never in a million years have thought that something like this would have been possible.  One of the most exciting things to happen was when one of my brides went on Four Weddings.  I didn’t actually know when her episode would be shown; it was just lucky that one night while I was watching the camera suddenly zoomed into the stationery and I screamed the house down when I realised it was mine, then to top it off... she won!

Every day I get excited about designing and creating items. I don’t really think of this as a job, its more like a life style as I really do eat, breath, sleep weddings and wedding stationery.

SO!  Firstly I just want to say that I am a huge Kardashian fan. While I’m designing and creating I am usually watching (with my ears) E! and the Kardshians tend to dominate this channel.

So when I found out that Kim Kardashian was getting married I had to know every little detail including the most important of all - the stationery!

I managed to find out the company designing K&K's stationery was Invitationers to the Stars  Lehr and Black. Their celebrity client list is endless, including invitations for Gweneth Paltrow & Chris Martin, Seal & Heidi Klum and now Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries. Sadly many of these celebrity couples are no longer married but I guess thats Hollywood for you! My favourite design in fact is Britney Spears and Kevin Fedderline’s, I love that its vintage, girly and romantic all in one, so I would definitely like to create something inspired by this in the future.

Although we haven’t really seen most of the wedding footage, from short clips that I have seen the logo/embelum is followed right the way through the theme, its even on the carpet as Kim swished down the aisle! It's a really classic, elegant and effective way of tying all items of stationery together. And it doesn’t just have to be done with identical initials, any two letters can fit together to create a unique personalised image.
I also LOVE how this style of invitation comes in its own box. This is such a simple way to really make an impression for your wedding - its like a little present for each guest to open.

I’m certainly looking forward to seeing all the extras to match this theme! x

Us too Sarah!  Thank you for the inspiring invite insight,

Much love and Happy Planning x

Kate Moss Wedding Inspired By the Glamour of the Great Gatsby

"I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and Twenties, when everything is soft-focus," said Kate. "The Great Gatsby. The code name was GG for a while. That light and that kind of fun decadence. It's rock 'n' roll Great Gatsby!"

Breakfast at Tiffany's is Fifty!

Old School Glamour for 2011...

“You could always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you."
Holly Golightly - Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Breakfast at Tiffany’s was the order of the day for our recent Christmas holiday.  Escaping the ice and snow en route to Heathrow, we checked in and tucked in to birthday danish’s and coffee a la Holly Golightly, opposite TIFFANY & Co. as we waited to board.

As Mr. Dreams frequently checked for the passports and tickets, in the spirit of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I frequently checked out my new sparkly diamonds in each proud ear.  Dontcha just love birthdays!  The theme continued on the flight.  As Mr. Dreams was in pleasant dreams, I indulged in 115 delicious minutes of Holly, Paul/Fred, Cat and Moon River.  And plenty of Old School Glamour (yes, even in economy).

During the holiday we had the pleasure to meet American Artist and Sculptor, Bill Mack (www.billmack.com)  A noted collector of rare and unusual memorabilia, renowned artist Bill Mack purchased the original HOLLYWOOD sign in 2007 and used the metal facing from the sign as canvas on which he painted the likeness of the great ‘movie stars’ from the Golden Years of Hollywood, including iconic legend, Audrey Hepburn.

So, in my Caribbean chilled out state, I had plenty of lazy days to daydream of a favourite wedding theme of mine, Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  Enjoy...

Arrive in style in a New York City Cab

Translate this look to your venue (art galleries, ballrooms) with black and white framed photographs, crystal trees, candelabras, a silent movie projector, and a table plan tree holding guest names and film quotes.  The Tiffany signature box filled with confectionery will complete the look!

Personalise it: Engagement shoots with wedding photographers are proving very popular.  Why not use Breakfast at Tiffany's inspired black and white shots of you both to hang around your reception?  Go dig out your tiara and pearls!

Fab Idea: Walk down the aisle to Moon River...

What better way to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary this year…

And last but not least, my favourite quotes.  A fun idea for a table plan!

“I've got to do something about the way I look. I mean a girl just can't go to Sing Sing with a green face”

“That's right. I'm just CRAZY about Tiffany's!”

“I'll tell you one thing, Fred, darling... I'd marry you for your money in a minute. Would you marry me for my money?”

“Did I tell you how divinely and utterly happy I am?”

“You could always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you. I must say, the mind reels”

“A girl can't read that sort of thing without her lipstick”

“Promise me one thing: don't take me home until I'm drunk - very drunk indeed”

“Anyone who ever gave you confidence, you owe them a lot”

“It's better to look at the sky than live there. Such an empty place; so vague. Just a country where the thunder goes and things disappear”

“I don't think I've ever drunk champagne before breakfast before. With breakfast on several occasions, but never before, before”

Inspiring Mood Boards - Ballerina Bridal Fashion

A belated Happy New Year to you, from all at Dreams HQ!

After a month long party of cocktail dresses, high heels and holidays, I’m pleased to be back to normality and ready to embrace the dreaded NYR's.  Apart from the usual wine and chocolate ban, (which I’ve severely broken already), I’m SO looking forward to my pledge for Mr. Dreams and I to frequent our local cinema much more. (Our visits often involve and pre glass of wine and a humongous bag of Malteesers, but hey ho).

So, how better to gracefully tip-toe 'en-pointe' into 2011 with the release of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel, released on Friday 21st January 2011. If the adulation of the film critics is to go by, be prepared to be overwhelmed by the overall beauty of the film and its costumes.  The psychological thriller plot set aside, this film promises to inspire 2011/12 brides with its aesthetically pleasing feast of feather accents, cinched waist corsets, tulle and tutus. Think Pretty Romance meets Tough Fashionista!

Laura and Kate Mulleavy of cult fashion label Rodarte  designed the costumes for Black Swan, taking ballet-inspired looks from the Barre to the Big Screen....and perhaps in your case, your BIG DAY?

Inspiring Mood Boards - Chic Beach Wedding

A couple of weekends ago, I attended the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners UKAWP two day course in Cheadle House, Cheadle.  I was in my element - 14 hours of non-stop wedding chatter with like minded wedding obsessed ladies!  I had a fabulous time, met some very inspiring ladies and really learnt a lot.

The UKAWP promote professionalism in the wedding industry.  I was lucky enough to meet one of their directors, the fabulous Kelly Chandler of The Bespoke Wedding Company, who was our tutor for the two days.  Assisting her on day two was the gorgeous Erika Unbehaun of Flutterfly Events

Day two set us the task of meeting with a potential bride at a mock consultation to discuss the day of her dreams.  In my case, a Chic Beach Cornish Wedding for June 2011!  It was great fun to get into character and plan a sophisticated, lavish affair.

So, here's a sneak peak of my proposal - my Chic Beach Mood Board.  Roll on June 2011!!!

Simply Charming!

If you're not one of the decisive brides whose venue, proposal, or personal passion has already set the scene for your big day, then choosing a theme can be quite overwhelming: Vintage, Romantic, Elegant, Rustic, Glitz, Glamour, Enchanted, Bohemian, Beachside, City, Garden, Fairytale, Parisian, Classic…and that was just 2009!
There are no hard and fast rules on selecting a theme, or even in fact, 'labeling' your day. But to keep your planning on track and keep you focused, a theme, subject or scheme is essential. Especially when it comes to decorating your venue.
If something inspires you, and reflects you, you won't go far wrong in creating a wedding day to remember.

Kristi Baker of Simply Charming Events tells more…

Choosing a theme
One of the main issues when choosing a theme is your budget. If you are working on a small tight budget then a Vintage theme could be easily achieved; while a Dazzling Elegant theme could be harder. Try to choose a theme that means something to you and your fiancé. Personalisation is Key! I recently did a football themed wedding!

Make a scrap book
While looking through magazines, cut out pictures and write your ideas down in a book; this will make it easier in the long run when you go to buy items or if hiring a professional, to show your ideas. A scrap book will help you stay on track and not lose sight of any original inspiration.

Decorations
Centrepieces are the focal point of the tables; where your guests will spend the majority of their day. With that in mind, they have a very important role to play! Our most popular centrepieces include martini glasses, fish bowls, mirrored plates, lily vases, and candelabras. Wishing Trees are a great alternative to guest books or table plans!

DIY
Add a personal touch. If creativity is not one of your strongest points, ask artistic friends and family to help out with place cards or table holders, to co-ordinate with your decorations.

Don’t overdo it
Keep things simple. Subtle touches really do create more of a WOW factor. A theme can be done without having to overdo it. Less is more!

Book a professional
We take bookings up to two years in advance. I would recommend you book your desired supplier ASAP to secure your date. Don’t forget to negotiate on the price; you may be surprised at what you can get. Also, make sure the supplier will come to your venue and set up for you, you definitely do not want to be stressing about this on the morning of your wedding.
